Last week at our SelectMinds Client Conference, Anthony Knierim of AON Hewitt presented the idea of gaming as a strategy to engage millennials in enterprise referral programs. Citing gaming’s unique attributes that encourage engagement, Knierim suggested some game mechanics to drive recruiting efforts on what, at first glance, seemed like an unusual platform. By letting users unlock powers, track leader boards, collect trophies and play ad infinitum, Knierim contended that gaming could be the next medium to be leveraged for recruiting.
This week, those words seems almost prophetic in the wake on this article from ERE, which says a new company called Upstream is beginning to use the aforementioned triggers to pull in available talent. Here’s Todd Rafael to explain:
Now […] Upstream, in the mobile marketing business, has created an online game for its marketing campaign manager positions. Candidates are led through seven “missions” or questions — that is, after they put in their contact details, including a resume. (A requirement I wasn’t so fond of, as it deters those without one.)
So as Upstream and others begin to tackle the gaming world, will HR professionals and candidates alike see a use? Or will it be Game Over before it even gets off the floor?
