Social recruiting has officially gone mainstream. But when you think of the most popular way to land a job online, your brain probably jumps first to LinkedIn, the site that stresses “relationships matter” to the tune of 120 million registered users. But not so fast. According to this info-graphic, courtesy of MBA Online, social recruiting has exploded and Facebook is leading the boom, outpacing the LinkedIn at nearly a two-to-one rate.
The data shows over 18 million Americans say that Facebook played a part in getting them their current job. And if that astonishing figure isn’t enough, that’s compared to the 10.2 million who say that LinkedIn landed them their gig and 8 million who used Twitter to find the current employer. In addition, 50% of job hunters said they used Facebook to look for a job last year with 16% saying they received a job referral through the site. Those numbers are significantly higher than LinkedIn (26%, 9%) and Twitter (25%, 6%).
There’s no doubt social recruiting will take on many forms as it evolves. But after looking at this, there’s no doubt that it’s resonating at many levels, particularly on the web’s most visited site.
