Senior UX Developer

SelectMinds is seeking a creative, collaborative and passionate Front-End Web Developer who also considers him/herself more as a JavaScript and AJAX guru or expert. You will help be the executing force in building a user experience that will delight users, excite designers, and inspire your colleagues. If you want to be told what to do or what to build and be a programming robot then this job is not for you. We need you to immediately come in with your thinking hat charged, problem-solving skills ready to go, and sleeves rolled up to produce rock-solid JavaScript/CSS/HTML. An A+ candidate in our eyes would be someone who has experience with or love the idea of building your own custom web controls (i.e. Grids with inline editing, form validation, field masking, sliding panels, etc). Also don't feel shy bragging about any skills or experience you have using open-source web controls or plug-ins that you've extended or enhanced in order to improve the user's experience and help differentiate our product offerings.

How do you know if you’re the right person?

You should have…

  • A solid, 2 to 5 years of web development using newer web 2.0 UI patterns (AJAX, DHTML, DOM manipulation).
  • An exceptional knowledge of JQuery or similar Javascript library; basically you should be able to explain when you would use a Javascript framework and when you wouldn't.
  • An opinion about 'Unobtrusive Javascript' and if you think it’s a thorn in your side or champion for the better good.
  • The ability to produce rock-solid, hand-coded XHTML and CSS.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and debugging skills; as well as be a self-leaner that’s always curious about unraveling innovative ways to solve problems.
  • A knack for forward progress and getting unstuck by creating and bridging relationships with your fellow back-end engineers and colleagues to get things done as a team!

 You should be…

  • Stickler about cross browser development and testing; and already know the advantages and disadvantages of Firefox, Internet Explorer and Chrome.
  • Proud of your exceptional organizational skills.
  • Passionate about asking questions and used to using your excellent oral and written communication skills to help unravel the true user problems.
  • A little OCD or even a lot OCD with your attention to detail and maintaining design integrity.

Additional desirable skills and experience:

  • Good working knowledge of Java / J2EE MVC patterns
  • Knowledge of CSS3 / HTML5; or experience developing Rich Internet Applications
  • Knowledge of Photoshop / Illustrator
  • Knowledge or experience with Eclipse / Unix command line / Version Control Systems / Agile-Scrum Process
